Think to Ink Writing Camp Entry #1

Greetings!

I am participating in Grace’s writing camp! Go team Pen! So here is my first entry!

I used all three prompts in my story. Thing 1, thing 2, thing 3. The reddish brown words go along with the prompt(s).

The girl stared hard into the mirror. The darkness hid most of her features, but her bright blue eyes were unmistakably frightened. With madly shaking hands she straightened the pink cardigan on her shoulders, and smoothed her tousled brown hair, trying to evoke confidence in herself. No luck.

Turning to peer out the window, the girl noted the bright moonlight. It would light her way. Tonight is the perfect night she thought, gazing longingly at the wide open earth. Keira, her best friend from the orphanage, lay awake, watching her quietly. The girl never spoke, never made a sound, but the look in her eyes told Keira exactly what was about to happen.

“Don’t do it, Janice,” Keira whispered. Janice was startled to find that her friend had been watching her. “Things will get better. I know they will.” Janice shook her head sorrowfully.

“Oh, Keira. I have to. This place is hopeless—dreadful—and you know it. I will go and get help. Then, I will come back for you—for all of you.” Keira looked at Janice sadly, knowing she was right.

The girl looked once more in the mirror. Something was different. A glint of courage shown in her eyes. She straightened her cardigan once more, and left, disappearing into the crisp night.

She had no idea what troubles awaited her.
