The Dog-napper – Part two

Part one here

Grace stared hopelessly out the window. It was only 8:00 AM (they had worked fast), but it felt like it had been hours and hours since Kaity was found to be missing. A big tear rolled slowly down her cheek. Her phone buzzed – someone found Kaity!? She tapped on the message – a phone company update. She sighed as worry clouded her mind.

Grace walked over to Julie and Caroline’s room. Caroline was sleeping soundly on the other end of the room. Grace flopped down beside Julie, leaned against her, and poured out her concerns – for the third time that morning.

“Don’t worry, Grace.” Julie said quietly (so not to wake Caroline), “It’s only been a little while, and Kaity couldn’t have gotten far. Someone ought to spot her.” She paused and smiled, “Besides, Kaity has so many spots, how could they not!”

Grace chuckled to herself, giving Julie a little smile. Shortly, Clara walked into the bedroom.

“I still think she’s been dog-napped!” Clara said matter-of-factly, she had been rambling on about dog-nappers all morning, trying to convince them.

“Oh Clara!” Julie said. Suddenly they heard a rumbling sound pulsing below them. Their eyes widened as they looked at each other.

“The dog-napper is coming back to rob us again!” Clara breathed.

“It sounds like they’re breaking in downstairs!” Grace spoke, quietly.

The grumbling noise grew louder.

“Girls,” Julie said, her eyes still wide, “There is probably a reasonable source of this sound, not some dog-napper.” But she had walked to the door and locked it. “Just to be safe,” She said, shrugging. Grace could tell she looked concerned.

Grace sat stiff as a stone on the bed. The Dog-napper made a sharp, louder grumbling sound. Grace felt something push against her legs.

She screamed.

The Thomas Family Pets – Part 4 – the Finale

Hi there! I have the last part of the Thomas Family Pets for you! Enjoy!

Complimentary refreshments: part one, two, and three

The next day, Grace and Caroline hurried off to the Pet Shop, excited for their plans.

“Welcome to The Precious Pet Shoppe!” Grace and Caroline were greeted by the smiling face of a young, blonde-haired store assistant. “How may I help you?”

“I was hoping to look at your canaries,” Caroline responded anxiously.

“Ah, yes, the canaries! Right this way!” The store worker led them to the glass cage where the canaries were kept, rattling off facts about them as they went.

“I suppose I’ll leave you to meet the birds. I’ll be just around the corner. Holler when you’ve picked one of these lovelies, and I’ll come get it for you!”

It didn’t take Caroline long to decide. An adorable little yellow one seemed to be looking right at her. The bird whistled a lovely tune.

“That one,” Caroline whispered, gesturing to the pretty bird.

Grace smiled at her decision, “We’ve decided!!!” she hollered (just as the lady asked her to).

“What a wonderful bird! I’ll get her for you straight away!” She carefully picked up the bird and they headed back to the front counter.

“Now, honey, You’ve found your birdie, but now you’re going to need a cage for her.” The lady started pulling various cages from inside her counter and showing them to Caroline.

“That ones really pretty,” Grace commented when the store worker pulled out a mint-colored bird cage.

“I agree,” said Caroline. “We’ll take it.” She nodded towards the bird cage.

“Alright! Now before I hand this little girl over to you, you’ll have to sign these papers. Are you sure you’re ready to be a serious bird owner?”

Caroline didn’t hesitate, “Oh I sure am!”

When Caroline and Grace got home, they were hardly through the doorway when Julie and Clara came to see what they had gotten. Grace and Caroline had kept the purpose of their trip a secret, and Julie and Clara knew something was up, and were bursting to see what it was.

“A bird!” Clara exclaimed.

“She’s beautiful.” Julie breathed. They were all happy and content with the new members of their family.

And with that, the Thomas Family was complete… for now at least…

And that’s the end of the Thomas Family Pets! How did you like it?

Also, I didn’t get any name suggestions in the comments for Clara’s guinea pig, but I decided on one anyways…

Drum roll please!

Prince Nibbles the 1st (Nibbles for short)

Whataya think? 🙂

BUT I still need canary names! Leave suggestions in the comments!

The Thomas Family Pets Part 3

In case you haven’t seen them, Part 1 and Part 2

After finding the little guinea pig, Julie and Caroline were soon at the vet to give him a checkup.

Julie walked up to the counter and explained the situation, the vet was happy to help and give him a checkup.

“He’s a cute little guy!” The vet exclaimed, admiring him. “You can go sit over by your sister while I take care of your new guinea pig.” So Julie walked over to the couple of chairs where Caroline was waiting for her and took a seat next to her.

“I hope we can keep him,” Caroline said.”

“And I hope he’s okay, not in too bad a condition.”

“Yeah,” Caroline paused, “You know, I’ve been thinking…”

“What?” Julie asked, “That Clara would love to have this little guy?”

Caroline giggled, “Yes!”

“And that this fulfills your goal of finding something on our hike to give to Grace or Clara?”

“And that.” They smiled, imagining Clara’s sweet surprise when they got home and gave her an adorable pet of her own.

Soon they heard the vet, “I’m all done!” They jumped up to hear her report.

“So…? How is he?” Julie asked anxiously.

The vet smiled, “I’m happy to tell you that your little guinea pig is quite healthy, as in, he isn’t really sick or hurt. He is starved and got a bit overheated, but with some love and care, he should be fit as a fiddle in no time!”

The vet handed Caroline a can of food. “Here, take this guinea pig food. Oh, and in case you were wondering, he has no owner, at least no owner who wants him. He was obviously abandoned, being left out there on the outskirts of the trail. He’s yours if you want him.”

“We sure do!” They answered in unison.

Julie and Clara hurried home, eager to present Clara her new pet.

Meanwhile, Grace and Clara were snuggled on the bed watching a movie on Grace’s iPad.

“Clara,” Julie called upon entering the house, “Caroline and I have got something for you!” Caroline struggled not to laugh or look suspicious.

“Something for me?” Clara wondered aloud to Grace; she was already getting up out of her spot on the bed.

“Well, I guess we’d better find out what it is!” Grace replied excitedly. They were downstairs in a jiffy.

Clara was shocked to see a guinea pig in a crate! She raised her arms and exclaimed, “A guinea pig! Is that for-? No it ca-! Oh oh!”

“Yes it’s for you. Yes it can be!” Julie answered Clara’s unfinished questions, grinning.

“Thank you…” Was all Clara could manage before picking her little guinea pig up from it’s crate.

She smiled and admired it. A pet of her own!

While Clara giggled at her guinea pig’s silly antics, Caroline and Grace chatted.

“Hey,” Grace said, smiling mischievously, “I know you’ve always wanted a canary. What do you say we go looking for one for you.”

Caroline smiled back, her eyes sparkling, “I’d love that,” she breathed. “How about tomorrow?”

“It’s a date!”

To be continued…

SO, what do you think of Clara’s new guinea pig?

He doesn’t have a name yet, so tell me in the comments any name suggestions you have, and I can tell you the name I decide on in the next part of The Thomas Family Pets (which will probably be the last one)

Also, while you’re at it, you might want to think up some canary names too… 😀

The Thomas Family Pets – Part 2

If you haven’t read part one, you can find it here

Soon after Grace and Clara were back on good terms, Julie and Caroline left to go on the hike they were planning.

“It’s a beautiful day for a hike!” Julie exclaimed cheerfully. Caroline smiled and nodded in agreement. They hiked on, listening to the beautiful sound of the birds chirping and observing God’s wondrous creation around them.

“So,” Caroline broke the silence, “What do you want to accomplish on this hike?”

“What?” Julie said, confused, “I dunno, get exercise?”

“No, not that! I mean, like, for instance, I want to find something interesting, and perhaps bring it back as a gift for Grace and Clara.”

“What kind of thing are you looking for?”

“Well, that part I don’t know yet.” Julie smiled and chuckled to herself. Caroline was quiet, but she sure had some creative-and sometimes confusing-thoughts in her head. Julie loved to hear what Caroline had to say, it often was very insightful or creative, sometimes almost genius. Julie and Caroline were very close.

“Hey, Julie, what do you say we stop for a break soon. I’m exhausted!” Caroline said.

“Sure! I’m getting tired as well. How about over there by those bushes, it’s nice and shady there!”

“This is perfect!”

They sat down and Caroline daydreamed while Julie idly weaved a pine needle through her fingers.

As they were relaxing in the shade, they began to hear a small squeaking noise.

“What is that?” Julie asked, to no one in particular.

“It sounds like it’s coming from through the bushes!” Caroline replied, jumping up to investigate.

Soon Julie was also up, and they began pushing their way through the bushes.

“What is it? Do you see anything?” They kept asking each other.

“It looks like a rabbit!” Caroline said excitedly. They scrambled out of the bushes and walked slowly towards the creature, trying not to frighten it.

As Julie neared the animal, she giggled, “That’s not a rabbit, Caroline, it’s a guinea pig wearing rabbit ears!” They both looked at the pitiful guinea pig, it looked quite skinny and afraid. No owners were in sight, it seemed to have been abandoned there.

“Well,” Julie said, picking up the guinea pig in it’s box, “I guess we should take it to the vet.”

“And keep it?” Caroline asked, her eyes sparkling.

“If no owners are found, then I guess so.” They smiled and admired the little guy as they walked off to the vet.

How’d you like it? More parts coming, so stay tuned!

Bye for now,

The Thomas Family Pets – Part 1

Hi! So I decided to start a photostory series about the doll’s pets! It will probably have about three parts, but that could change… 🙂

Here we go!

Clara was usually bright and cheery, but today she seemed to have woken up on the wrong side of the bed.

“Clara!” Grace said. “You need to get Kaity her food!”

“Just let me finish this one last article! Please Grace!”

“Clara, You said that five minutes ago! Kaity needs her food now!”

“Oh come on! She’s your dog! Why do I have to do everything for her? You should be the one to feed her!”

“Clara, you don’t do everything-”

Julie called from downstairs, “Clara, get Kaity her food now.”

“Fine!” She burst out angrily.

Clara stomped to the kitchen and poured a confused and concerned Kaity her morning serving of food.

After Clara had gone back to her and Grace’s room Grace went to talk with Julie and Caroline, who were getting ready to go on a hike a little later that day.

“Is everything Okay?” Caroline asked quietly.

“I don’t know what’s gotten into her!” Grace replied. “Normally she does her chores cheerfully, but today she’s just been lazy and grumpy. She cannot seem to answer me without being rude.”

“I’ll go talk to her,” Julie said. Julie typically was the one to step in and resolve conflicts. She had a motherly way about her.

“Hi Clara.”

“Go away.”

“That’s not much of a greeting for your sister. Would you like to tell me what’s up?”

Clara hesitated. ” I don’t understand why I have to do chores for her dog! Not to mention that she has her own iPad. I feel like she gets all the cool pets and things, and all I have is, well,” she looked down at her crumpled magazine, “an American girl magazine!” She sighed and added quietly, “I guess I’m just jealous. You know how much I want a pet of my own, I wish I didn’t have to do so much for a pet that isn’t even mine.”

“You make it sound like you have to do everything for Kaity. All you have to do is give her food and water,” Julie reasoned. “She is Grace’s dog, but the whole family has to pitch in. We all love her, and Grace can’t do all the work herself.” When Clara didn’t respond, Julie paused and added, “Sometimes Grace gets jealous of you too.”

Julie had gotten Clara’s attention. “What? How? What do I have that she could possibly want?”

“Well, for starters, you have a cellphone and she doesn’t. Also, since you are the youngest you have fewer responsibilities and sometimes get more attention. But you know what Grace does when she gets jealous?”

“She prays about it and doesn’t take it out on you. She remembers all her blessings, and soon the jealous feeling goes away.”

Clara stood up, feeling rather guilty. “I’m sorry Julie. I guess I know what I need to do then.” Julie smiled and nodded, and Clara walked to the kitchen where Grace was.

“Hey, Grace,” Clara spoke up.

“Grace, I want to apologize for how I treated you earlier. It was unkind and unfair of me to be so rude to you. I’m sorry, and am completely willing to help out with Kaity. Will you forgive me?”

Grace smiled, “Of course I forgive you.”

Suddenly they heard a small crashing noise and turned around.

“Kaity!” Grace complained. “Ugh, I guess I have to go clean that up!”

“No wait,” Clara said, “Let me help you.” She smiled. “That’s what sisters are for.”

Stay tuned for the next part/episode!
